DANCING WITH THE WORLD'S BOOK-DOMINATRIX

Or How My Book Got On Kindle's Lit-Lottery Known as Kindle Scout

So, a week ago during a pause for lunch, when I grant this Hyper-typer/Paint-slinger (that's me) a modicum of free time to rip a leg off the 2-day old rotisserie chicken, nuke it to kill whatever may be lurking and multiplying on that rubbery skin with the odd pinfeather sticking out, and stuff my cake-hole (shut up!... that's not a dirty expression!), while greasing up the keyboard, as I deleted much spam... and nearly got it down to 3,000 emails... I was checking my usual copious Amazon.com spam, direct from that particular world-dominating bookseller, when I noticed there was something rather uniform about the book covers they were sending...
that the images were pretty much all (might I say stock) photos with dropped-out or surprinted titles and author credit.

It took a while to figure it out... I was down to that chunk of gnarly gristle on the chicken-thigh joint, when I had opened most of the promo book-pages to see what the dealio was, that I scrolled down and saw they were published by Kindle Press... Kindle-wha...?!! I was aware of Amazon's many forays into publishing with imprints such as Thomas & Mercer (and many others that had me a bit confused) but this foray of Kindle's feels new.

Upon Googlizing that entity came something called Kindle Scout. This is one hella concept Martha!! In a nut-thingy, (whatever that expression is) here's the rundown. Writers submit a never-before-published manuscript with a minimum of 50,000 words, a short catch-phrase, bio, synopsis, answer some questions, and slap the send button... and boom-shacka-lacka! Off it goes into the ether for a day or so, and unlike (most) literary agents, the verdict on whether the book is included in the nomination process is fast. BTW, not to be presumptuous, but all the "Kindle" links are directly to my page so that you can nominate me without having to jump through hoops! I know, so considerate, right?

Meanwhile readers can have a lot of fun playing publishing-God on this site. There are plenty of books to choose from, organized by genre (find mine under mystery, thriller, suspense), and they have excerpts of about 5000 words to give a flavor of the writing. Like a book? Nominate it! And if it gets the publishing nod from Amazon Kindle... you get a free copy.
